Costa del sol is often referred to as Costa del golf and it is very easy to understand why considering the number of courses that are found in this beautiful area.
The sport of golf has a turnover of 1.5 billion euros each year and creates approximately 18,000 jobs. The province of Málaga is one of the leading golf destinations in Europe with a total of 72 golf courses, several of which are international class such as Valderama, Finca Cortesin, Los Naranjos, La Cala Golf and many more.
In February 2025, the Feria del Golf IG will be held in the Palacio de Ferias y Congresos in Málaga. It will be the first really large golf fair to be organized on the Solkusten and is expected to attract a large international audience.
The golf courses on the Costa del Sol draw attention because of how they meet the challenges associated with the often very dry climate and the commitment to sustainability. Virtually all courses are irrigated with purified waste water, 92% of all golf courses which makes Spain a world leader.
The golf tourists who have a high purchasing power and seem to enjoy themselves very much during their visits give the destination a rating of 9.24 on the ten-point scale, market research shows. 98.7 percent recommend the destination to their friends and that is a very good rating!
In total, Spain has 1.2 million golf tourists a year in an industry with a turnover of twelve billion euros.
One of the most exclusive golf areas is called La Zagaleta and there are two very beautiful golf courses and in La Zagaleta you will also find the most expensive address in all of Spain with an average price of 12.3 million Euros for a villa. In addition to these golf courses, there is a nice stable, tennis and padel facilities, helipad, hiking and cycling trails and, of course, exclusive restaurants.
